Fishing village and the art of salting anchovies
The anchovies from L’Escala and the salting process employed locally are famous throughout the world. We will visit the Museum of the Anchovy and Salt to discover a little more of the history of this town before the arrival of mass tourism. We will also visit an anchovy factory and taste the local produce accompanied by pa and tomàquet, the famous Catalan bread and tomato.
In a nearby village we will visit a small olive-oil producer who will explain how this precious golden liquid that plays such an important role in Mediterranean diets is produced.
And as a rest from the exertions of the day, a local self-taught chef with many a trick up his sleeve will prepare a gastronomic menu for us, accompanied by a selection of wines and seasonally available local products.
